Despite predictions of a slow hurricane season, AccuWeather's forecast predicts that up to five tropical systems could impact the United States this year. The annual prediction, which runs from June 1-Nov. 30, predicts that there will be 11 to 16 named storms, with 4 to 7 expected to become hurricanes. Of these, 2 to 4 would grow into major hurricanes of Category 3 or stronger. The forecast also suggests that 3-5 of these systems could have a direct impact on the U.S. The potential for a Super El Niño, rising temperatures above normal could result in a quieter back-end of the six-month hurricane season.
