The Orion space capsule, which brought North American astronauts around the moon and back in a historic mission, has left San Diego for a cross-country trip to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida where parts of the capsule will be reused for future missions. San Diego-based Navy sailors had a significant role in the Artemis II mission, assisting the astronauts' return from space and recovering the Orion capsule. Initial inspections found the spacecraft's heat shield and parachute system performed as designed, resulting in a safe ocean landing and recovery by NASA and U.S. Navy teams.
