ZDNET's John Defterios has found that car charging can lead to overheating, particularly in cars, causing a problem that has become an increasing problem. Despite following Apple's recommended methods, his iPhone 17 Pro Max only lasted two years before its battery became so bad it became so frustrating to use. He stopped caring about charging his phone on any charger or power bank close to hand. Instead, he used a thermoelectric cooler and instead threw it on whatever charger or used any close-handable power bank he could find. He found that the only time his iPhone enters "Charging on Hold" mode when it overheates is when it's charging in the car. The company warns that high temperatures can permanently reduce battery capacity and that high ambient temperatures can damage battery capacity. Deceptive changes to iPhone battery settings can significantly improve its battery life.
