CNN's chief data analyst, Harry Enten, has stated that history is on the Democrats' side as House Republicans are retiring in record numbers ahead of the midterms. Three dozen House Republicans have announced they will leave their seats at the end of their current terms, the highest number since 1930. This figure surpasses the previous record set during President Donald Trump's first term. Enten also noted that the party with fewer House retirements has won midterm elections a majority of the time (80%) since 1982. He suggested that the number of GOP retirements could increase due to President Trump's low approval rating, which could be a factor in the GOP exodus.
