Severe thunderstorms with up to 60 mph winds are expected to hit New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon and evening, following a warm day with near-record highs. The National Weather Service warns that severe weather is expected between 3 p.m. and 10pm, with a higher chance for severe weather in the southern half of the state. Forecasters predict that the storms could disrupt daily high temperature records for April 1. However, the cold front accompanying the thunderstorms will bring temperatures down Wednesday night, leaving mainly cloudy skies for Thursday. Temperatures will return on Friday with highs in the 70s, though the Jersey Shore may only reach the low to mid-60s.
