Vilma Jää Brings herding calls and mocking songs to Met Opera’s production of 'Innocence'

Vilma Jää, Finland's leading opera composer Kaija Saariaho, has played a major role in the Met Opera's production of "Innocence," one of the 21st century's most acclaimed operas. The role of Markéta, played by Jäasta, thrust her into the international opera scene after her introduction to Kaiariaho. The opera is currently being performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Jäast's music was influenced by Finnish folk traditions, influenced by her mother's heritage. The production takes place in two time periods 10 years apart and is set on a split-level revolving set.
