A juvenile has been arrested in connection to the death of a 12-year-old girl, Khimberly Zavaleta Chuquipa, who died after being hit with a metal water bottle while protecting her sister from bullying. The incident occurred at a Los Angeles school a week prior. Chuqipa's family claims that major blood vessels in her brain ruptured after the incident. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that a juvenile was arrested for alleged murder. The family's attorney, Robert Glassman, stated that an arrest is an important step towards accountability but does not necessarily answer the larger question of how this was allowed to happen. They filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) in March claiming that ChuququipA's sister had been bullied before the incident occurred but the school did not act.
