Fear of immigration enforcement in North Carolina has led to increased closure of Latino-owned businesses and businesses, according to a survey by El Pueblo, a community organization that surveyed over 1,000 Latinos. The survey revealed that most respondents are avoiding daily activities due to fear of being identified as immigrants, with nearly 40% of respondents saying they have stopped going on family outings and 27% no longer attending community events. Local organizations working with Latino communities have seen this firsthand. El Centro Hispano NC, one of the largest Latino community organizations in the Triangle, expanded its services to meet growing demand. Meanwhile, Republican leaders argue that recent immigration enforcement efforts are focused on public safety, not crime, but on contributing to the community and providing for family.
