Mobile surveillance trailers, or 'Cameras on Wheels', are now being used to deter crime and apprehend those who commit it. These units are solar-powered, connected through cell bandwidth or WiFi, and equipped with clusters of cameras and lights. The manufacturer of these units, ECAM, uses high-definition video through advanced camera technologies such as Pan‑Tilt‑Zoom, thermal, multisensor and license plate recognition to ensure clear, wide-area visibility day or night. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office used these units to prevent crime at retail shopping areas, including Camarillo Premium Outlets, and to monitor storm runoff and debris flows during heavy rainfall after the fire. Some units also have gunshot detection sensors to detect shootings and video analytics to help determine if someone is carrying a weapon.
