The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) has not implemented any new rules or penalties for workplace workplace safety since a worker died four years ago after inhaling cannabis dust. Workers and workplace safety advocates have urged the CCC to increase its oversight during a listening session. They included calls for tougher inspections, real-time testing of mold levels, and enforcement of workplace safety standards required by OSHA. The CCC requires that all cannabis businesses make workplace safety measures for manufacturing and producing cannabis products or risk license suspension or revocation. However, it has limited authority to enforce more stringent workplace requirements or penalties without updates to the state's cannabis laws. The agency has issued two bulletins about safety standards for cannabis processing and classifying cannabis dust as a hazardous chemical.
