Couple makes unprecedented move with $300M land: 'Protect nature from being devoured'

Kris Tompkins, a former CEO of Patagonia and her late husband, Doug, who founded The North Face Inc. and Esprit, have donated over $345 million in land in South America to the Chilean and Argentinian public, marking the largest private land donation in history. The couple also created or significantly enlarged six national parks, conserving 14.7 million acres of land and 30 million marine acres. In return, Kris Tompkin prioritized conservation efforts to protect species threatened by human-caused pollution. The land will remain protected for at least 99 years.
