Christina Koch, a mission specialist for NASA's Artemis II mission, is a Philadelphia area native and a fan of the Phillies. She will be joining the International Space Station in 2019 and is the first woman to leave low Earth orbit. Koch, who has advanced degrees in electrical engineering and has developed astrophysics instruments for NASA, still wears her Phillies and Eagles gear in space. She and her crewmates, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Jeremy Hansen, reached the apogee of all known journeys at around 7 p.m. eastern time Monday night while the Phillies were warming up in San Francisco. The team experienced a comms blackout for forty minutes on the far side of the moon.
