Report shows real estate commissions remain high after NAR settlement

A report by the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) has revealed that real estate commissions have remained high despite a 2024 settlement by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) that allowed the group to pay $418 million and change its rules after home sellers accused the group of artificially inflating agent commissions. The report suggested that buyers could be responsible for covering the cost of their own agent, which is negotiable. The study also revealed that more large brokerage firms are now competing more aggressively to keep listings in house.
