Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has challenged the National Football League (NFL) over the "Rooney Rule," which he claims is discriminatory and illegal in Florida. The rule requires teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching, coordinator and front office positions, and requires each team to employ one woman or one person from an ethnic minority as an offensive coaching assistant. Uthme has ordered the NFL to stop enforcing the rule or face state civil rights enforcement action. This could affect the hiring practices of Florida's three professional football teams. The NFL created the Rooney Rule in 2003 to increase the number of minority coaches and executives in the league.
