Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton won the Democratic Senate primary in Illinois, likely to become the second Black woman to serve in the upper chamber at the same time. She edged out Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Rep. Robin Kelly in third place. Stratton will face former Illinois Republican Party chair Don Tracy in November. She credits her success to her initiatives to improve maternal health outcomes and foster girls' political participation. The Congressional Black Caucus criticised Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker for spending millions on his No. 2’s campaign, a move that became a point of criticism late in the race.
