States limiting HIV drug access as federal funding plateaus

A report by the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) has revealed that over 20 states are reducing or considering funding programs for HIV medications due to insufficient federal funding. The report found that 23 states, including Washington D.C., are implementing or considering cost-containing measures of their AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAP). These measures include lowering financial eligibility and reintroducing waitlists or reducing drug formularies. The Trump administration's budget request for fiscal year 2026 maintained ADAP funding but requested cuts to other programs like dental care, education and training.
