Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has initiated an investigation into OpenAI, the company behind the ChatGPT chatbot, regarding risks related to national security, criminal misuse, and child safety. The probe will be conducted to determine if the company’s artificial intelligence systems pose risks. Concerns are raised about whether foreign adversaries could access data gathered by OpenAI and potentially use it for purposes of America's enemies, including the Chinese Communist Party. Uthme also mentioned reports that ChatGpt may have been used by the suspect in a 2025 shooting at Florida State University. The investigation comes as AI chatbots face increasing legal and regulatory scrutiny.
