Rt. 1 Car Fatalities Are Down 20 Percent From 2024, County Says

The Rt. 1 Safer Travel Initiative, initiated by former Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, has resulted in a 20-percent decrease in motor vehicle fatalities on Rt., from 60 fatalities in 2024 to 48 fatalities in 2025. This is largely due to high-visibility patrols initiated by the county prosecutor, which were conducted by local police departments along the roadway. However, fatal car accidents also decreased, with 54 fatal crashes in 2024 falling to 48 in 2025, an 11-percent reduction. The initiative is continuing to work towards making Rt.-1 safer.
