Preparing for the 2026 hurricane season

The 2026 Eastern Pacific hurricane season is set to begin on May 15, followed by a June 1 start for the Atlantic Basin. May 3 to 9 is Hurricane Preparedness Week to prepare for the upcoming season. Each day will focus on various aspects of tropical weather systems, such as knowing risks and taking action before and after a storm. The biggest threat comes from storm surge, which can rise and affect hundreds of miles inland. Other threats include strong winds, tornadoes, and dangerous rip currents. The forecast for the future Atlantic hurricane season includes 13 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes.
