Everyday Heroes: Wheelchair basketball team soars to Nationals

The wheelchair basketball program at Bridge City Inclusive Sports, which provides specialized sports wheelchairs for its athletes, has achieved its first time in nine years that a youth wheelchair basketball team from Portland has qualified for the 2026 National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) National Championship. The team's assistant coach, Kelli Sullivan, stated that the experience is inspiring the athletes to achieve and learn about their abilities and skills in their sport. Athletes such as 8-year-old Molly Fanning, 11, and Alex Salgado, 16, have also benefited from the program. The nonprofit aims to make wheelchair basketball and other sports accessible and costs upwards of $3,000 each.
