The ruling by U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy in Boston, Massachusetts, indicates that the Trump administration cannot terminate the Temporary Protected Status designation for 5,000 Ethiopians. This is the latest legal setback for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in its efforts to end TPS for 13 countries in support of President Trump's hardline immigration agenda. The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in April about whether the administration can revoke such temporary legal protections for more than 350,000 Haitians and about 6,100 Syrians living in the United States. TPS allows eligible migrants with work authorization and temporary protection from deportation. The plaintiffs argue that the administration's actions were based on an unconstitutional animus against non-white immigrants.
