Netgear has been granted approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to sell new routers in the US. This exemption comes after the FCC announced a new government ban on foreign-made routers. The ban restricts new foreign-manufactured routers from import or sale in the country unless they receive approval. Existing Netgear routers will continue to receive updates. This approval applies to new consumer router models, including Netgear Nighthawk and Orbi products. The White House-convened interagency body determined that routers produced in foreign countries pose "unacceptable risks to the national security of the United States and to the safety and security of US persons." The ban also affects existing routers' software and firmware updates, but only until March 1, 2027.
