Sonic Fire Tech, a California startup, has claimed that sound waves can replace fire sprinklers as effective tools for preventing fires but causing significant water damage to property. The company's goal is to replace sprinklers, which are already required in all new California homes built in 2011 and later, and also produce a backpack-based system worn by wildland firefighters. The demonstration took place in a makeshift kitchen in Concord, California, where an AI-driven sensor activated and wall emitters blasted infrasound waves towards the infrasounding source of the fire. The technology, which vibrates oxygen molecules away from a source, deprives the fire of a critical component needed for combustion. However, experts are skeptical about the effectiveness of this technique.
