Allegheny County restricts ICE cooperation

Allegheny County Council has passed a bill limiting county police and county workers' cooperation with federal immigration officials. The measure comes amid a surge in arrests for immigrants without local criminal charges, some with work permits or pending asylum claims. The bill prohibits these individuals from assisting in any capacity, nor from questioning citizens' immigration status. The county already has a policy limiting cooperation with ICE.
