Louisiana lawmakers are working to establish new regulations on artificial intelligence, including legislation that would make creating AI-generated nude images of minors a felony. The bill would add harsher penalties for those who possess, disseminate, or sell images or videos of another person created by artificial intelligence. A Lafourche Parish father testified in support of the legislation, stating that proper deterrence is not a misdemeanor but a felony, and that creating artificial intelligence content involving nudity of a minor should be treated as one. Rep. Bryan Fontenot, the bill's sponsor, said the legislation sends a message that the severity of a crime should equal the penalty. Two additional bills also address the use of AI for child pornography and whether a crime requires a real child to be the case.
