A resurgence in the home and housewares industry is being driven by a demand for convenience and human connection among younger consumers, according to a survey by the International Housewares Association. The survey found that 47% of Gen Z and 39% of millennial consumers plan to host more at-home gatherings in 2026, with 28% of respondents expecting an increase in hosting due to a desire to spend more time with friends and family, celebrate occasions and save money in a tight economy. As part of this trend, younger hosts are choosing curated items with flair and personality to create an authentic, relaxed backdrop for social gatherings. Peter Giannetti from the association said that while traditional housewearing is not necessarily old-fashioned, it's new and exciting. The rise of social media and the rise of e-commerce stores has boosted consumers' access to home inspiration and shopping options, while new technologies have also introduced a new wave of home conveniences.
