Kentucky State Police has released its full case file into the death of Douglas Harless, who was killed in a police shooting in 2024 in Laurel County, Kentucky. The case was brought to light after officers from the London Police Department responded to Vanzant Road to serve a search warrant tied to a stolen property investigation on December 23, 2024, but mistakenly ended up at 511 Vanzanton Road instead. The mix-up was caused by incorrect mapping data from Google and Apple Maps and records from the county's property valuation system. Harless was shot five times by a London police officer, and no charges will be filed. KSP determined that Harless had no connection to the stolen property probe linked to the warrant and the case was turned over to a special prosecutor at the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General and presented to a grand jury in February. The grand jury found the case had "no true bill," meaning no criminal charges will still be filed, which means no charges have been filed.
