Daniel Biss is projected to win the Democratic nomination for the U.S. House in Illinois' 9th Congressional District, replacing retiring Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. This is the first time this seat has been open in 26 years. Biss, a former Illinois state senator and endorsed by Schakowski, is expected to win. The race was one of the most competitive races in Illinois history. Other Democratic candidates included former journalist Kat Abughazaleh, current Illinois state Sen. Laura Fine, and gun control advocate Phil Andrew.
