A proposed redistricting amendment in Virginia could result in up to four additional congressional seats for Republicans. The measure, backed by Democrats, would redraw the state’s congressional map mid-decade, potentially resulting in a 10-1 Democratic advantage until after the 2030 census. Currently, Virginia's delegation is 6-5 in favor of Democrats. The group supporting the amendment, "Virginians For Fair Elections," has raised over $22 million compared to the opposition group's $495,000. Critics argue that the proposal is a "power grab by left-wing politicians" that would diminish representation for Republican-leaning areas. However, supporters argue that this is about countering President Donald Trump's redistricting efforts in states like Texas.
