Literacy, good teachers key to California education, says EdVoice CEO

EdVoice, a non-profit educational advocacy group, is working to improve California's public education system and increase literacy rates for all students. The group has championed early literacy legislation, protected teacher preparation training and incentive programs, and has lobbied for funding for future educators who commit to working in low-income schools. The CEO of EdVoice, Marshall Tuck, spoke about the challenges facing California schools and students, including a 50% chance of not graduating high school with the skills needed to succeed in a 21st-century job market. Tuck highlighted the need for systemic change in California's education system, focusing on improving reading instruction, aligning classroom instructional materials with evidence-based literacy instruction, and improving teacher conditions. He also highlighted the upcoming State Superintendent of Public Instruction race.
