Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has urged Congress to pass the Speedy Tariff Refund Act of 2026, which he introduced in February. The bill requires the administration to process tariff refunds in 30 days with interest and prioritizes refunds for small businesses. This comes after the Supreme Court ruled that tariffs imposed by the Trump administration under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act were unconstitutional. Despite launching an online portal where businesses can claim their refunds, the system could take up to 90 days and some business owners have reported glitches. Wyden and Sen. Ed Markey also advocated for the bill's passage, arguing that current system of requiring businesses to file claims for refunds puts small businesses at a disadvantage.
