Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Defends Spending Cuts to Health Agencies

President Donald Trump's 2027 budget proposes $111.1 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), a 12.5% reduction from this year's budget, and includes continued reductions in research grants and programs dedicated to women's and children's health services. During a hearing before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health, Human Services, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin predicted that Congress will reject the budget request. During the hearing, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy defended the proposed cuts, stating that it was Congress' choice not to cut these programs. Kennedy also defended the National Institutes of Health cuts, which he claimed were wasteful and that he had authorized funding for cancer vaccines and a universal flu vaccine.
