Jack Leiter's performance in the fifth inning of the Rangers' game against the Pirates ended in a disappointing performance, with the team coming back to level the game. Despite allowing a run in the first inning, Leiter managed to maintain control and hold Pirates batters to 0-for-10. The highlight of the game was an 11-pitch battle with Brandon Lowe, with Leiter winning with a new cutter he used in his 84 pitches. Manager Skip Schumaker expressed surprise and disbelief at the end of his outing, particularly as he felt like he was in a good groove to go at least six innings. The Pirates responded with a two-out, two-run single from Jake Burger in the eighth.
