The Safer Supervision Act of 2025 aims to empower probation officers and judges to focus on the most dangerous individuals in the system. Currently, there are over 110,000 people on federal supervised release, with resources not keeping pace. The bill would require judges to justify who gets supervised, reward compliance, and free officers from focusing on those who pose the greatest risk. It also includes a presumption of early termination once a person has served at least 50 percent of their term, or 66.6% if convicted of a violent offense. The act has bipartisan and law enforcement support and is designed to ensure that the most serious individuals are treated well and reentry success. The Safer Safety Act will help ensure that most dangerous people receive the most frequent probation visits.
