Uterine Gene Expression May Play Key Role in Infertility

Infertility is a common issue affecting nine percent of men and about 11 percent of women, with about a third of these couples not understanding why they're unable to conceive. Research is being conducted by Dr. Anat Chemerinski and Dr. Nataki Douglas, Director of OBGYN Translational Research at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, who have identified 556 genes that are active in the endometrium when the uterus is ready for pregnancy. The researchers hope their work will lead to a diagnostic test and potentially to develop new treatments.
