Democrats are warning that Kamala Harris, former vice president of California, should have chosen California governor over running for president in 2028. They argue that she should have settled for being California governor and face a "real burden" of defending her past failings in Washington. Harris was the Democratic nominee for president after Joe Biden stepped aside, but lost to Republican candidate Donald Trump in the presidential race. Since then, Harris has been touring the country promoting her book and commenting on foreign policy. However, she has ruled out running for presidency again and has said she might run for president but does not plan on running for governor of her home state. The California law allows for the two candidates with the highest number of votes to join the party in a jungle primary, regardless of the June 2022 general election.
