As Americans bear costs of the Iran war and DHS shutdown, politicians leave town

The cost of the Iran war and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is high, with 13 service members killed and two more died of noncombat causes in the war. Meanwhile, the ongoing shutdown of DHS has left air travelers waiting for flights and increased gas prices at the pump. Despite this, there is little disruption in the lives of policymakers whose actions have caused stress for Americans. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who urged President Donald Trump to launch the war with Iran, along with his colleagues on Capitol Hill, left Washington, D.C., last week without discussing funding for DHS. The Republican-led House and Senate are now at odds on an issue that the GOP thought it could control.
