Shelter cuts could push homelessness higher in Multnomah County

The number of homeless people in Multnomah County is expected to rise through the summer, with a potential $67 million shortfall in funding. This comes as funds for homeless outreach, shelter, and eviction prevention are decreasing and costs are increasing. The county may need to close six shelters and five day centers, reduce outreach and job training, according to deputy director of homeless services. The public hearing will take place on May 13.
