Frozen food maker files Chapter 11 as pandemic boom fades

The recent bankruptcy filing of frozen food manufacturer Triple Sticks Food Inc. has resulted in a period of rapid growth for businesses that grew rapidly due to the Covid pandemic, but this was a false positive, not an underlying change in demand, according to a report by the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) and FMI—the Food Industry Association. The report suggests that frozen foods are among the fastest growing categories in the grocery store a year after the pandemic began, with AFFI CEO Alison Bodor stating that frozen food sales have been a significant growth driver for retailers since 2016. However, after the period of growth, the industry has struggled to maintain its former highs. The industry has returned to growth, with data from Circana indicating that frozen department unit sales are slowing while dollar sales continue to increase.
