Houston Meteor Fireball 2026: Sonic Boom Rattle Homes as Record Heat Builds.

A meteor, roughly 3 feet across and weighing about 1 ton, entered Earth's atmosphere at around 35,000 mph creating a shockwave equivalent to 26 tons of TNT. The powerful sonic booms rattled homes, shook buildings, and sent vibrations through neighborhoods across the region. Reports were reported from Cypress, Katy, Cinco Ranch, Wharton, and beyond, including northwest Houston suburbs and Waller County. The meteor first became visible near Stagecoach, Texas, northwest of Houston, then moved southeast before fragmenting near Cypress Station/Bammel. This followed a larger daytime fireball over Ohio, which was confirmed by NASA days earlier.
