East Bay Rep. Eric Swalwell, a leading contender in the California governor’s race, has been accused of sexually assaulting a former staffer and three other women of sexual misconduct. The allegations were reported by the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN, with the woman alleging that she was too intoxicated to consent during both incidents. Swallwell denied the allegations, stating that he has always protected women for his decades of public service and will defend himself against them. His supporters have since distanced themselves from his campaign and the California Teachers Association has revoked its endorsement of him. All candidates for governor have also called for him to resign or leave the race.
