The Minnesota Vikings are concerned that second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who has struggled with some of the "more elemental aspects" of being a franchise quarterback, can't handle being the face of a franchise. This concern has led the team to consider other options at the crucial position. Despite using the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to draft McCarthy, McCarthy's performance and footwork have been described as inconsistent by several team sources. The Vikings are looking for a veteran who does not cost much in free agency or via trade. The team is hoping McCarthy improves his footwork and processing, but also aiming to upgrade the options beyond him if he falters.
