The Oscars are notorious for their censorship, with notable moments such as Kieran Culkin accidentally dropping the first F-bomb of the night while giving a shout-out for his former costars at the 2025 Oscars. Other celebrities, including Spike Lee and Melissa Leo, have also made public apologies during their speeches. The incident occurred during the live broadcast of the 97th Academy Awards broadcast. The censorship of these speeches was later posted on YouTube by the Academy. Kevin Hart delivered a moving speech about diversity at the 2016 Academy Awards, but a censor in Hart's speech caused some to question its authenticity.
