PA fire department in need of volunteers

The number of volunteer firefighters in Pennsylvania has been on a downward trend for years, with many fire companies seeing dwindling membership numbers. The Volunteer Hose Company of Throop, a local fire company that has been operating for almost a century, has issued an SOS for more volunteers to help keep the community safe. According to the Pennsylvania Fire and Emergency Services Institute, approximately 38,000 volunteer firefighters are active in the state, a 90% decrease from 1970. The fire company has enlisted anyone of any age to volunteer, even if they have no firefighting experience.
