FIFA has defended its plan to introduce private investment into the World Cup and its other tournaments, despite threats from European football's governing body, UEFA, and other regional confederations. FIFA plans to create a $20bn subsidiary, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), to run the World Cups and its events, with a stake of up to 20% offered to external investors. The fund run by Joshua Kushner-founded Thrive Capital is expected to lead the proposed investor group. UEFA's 55 member nations voted to boycott all FIFA tournaments, less than two weeks after Spain's World Cup win. FIFA insists it will proceed with consultation to ensure that each member association can have a say in shaping their own future.
