The Trump administration just sued N.J. to block in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants

The federal government has sued New Jersey for allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition and receive state financial aid at public colleges and universities. The lawsuit alleges that New Jersey law discriminates against U.S. citizens due to its allowing undocumented immigrant students to qualify for such aid. The state and several state agencies and board are among the defendants. This is the ninth state targeted by President Donald Trump's administration to try to reverse policies that offer college tuition help for students living in the country illegally. The federal Department of Justice has previously filed similar suits in Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia, Nebraska and California. New Jersey officials and student advocates have criticized the lawsuit as a distraction.
