Feds Will Appeal Congestion Pricing Ruling As It Renews Effort To End Program

The Department of Justice has filed a two-page memo to appeal the decision by Judge Lewis Liman to end the program, stating that the termination of federal authorization was unlawful. This follows a significant victory for the city and the MTA in their efforts to protect congestion pricing. The Department of Transportation had revoked federal authorization of the toll and had previously threatened to hold up funds for some federally funded road projects in the city. Since the introduction of congestion pricing, speeds on Manhattan crossings have increased by 23% and air pollution is down 22%.
