If birthright citizenship falls in Supreme Court, effects would be felt in Kern County

The Supreme Court heard arguments over birthright citizenship, following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump last January challenging a longstanding precedent. The 14th Amendment of the Constitution defines US citizenship as "all persons born or naturalized in the United States" and subject to the jurisdiction thereof. The biggest impact would be on farmworkers in rural areas of Kern County. A decision from the Supreme Court is expected later this summer.
