A Skokie resident has filed a complaint against former Trustee James Johnson, alleging that he used his position on the Village Board to promote his campaign for Village Clerk. The complaint alleges that Johnson violated the Village Code ordinance that public office should not be used for personal gain. The Skokokie Officers Ethics Commission found that Johnson had violated the village's ethics code three times and recommended a $1 fine for each violation. The Village Board can either accept the recommendation or reject it. The decision will be reviewed by administrative review in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
