Boston's election commissioner, Eneida Tavares, has been reassigned to a different City Hall department after overseeing a chaotic 2024 presidential election that led to state receivership. Tavares had been in her position since 2019 and began her new role as assistant director of project controls and compliance for the Public Facilities Department on Feb. 23. Paul Chong, the commissioner of city records, will temporarily be acting elections commissioner while the city searches for a permanent commissioner. The city's election department was placed in receivership in 2025 for failing to properly administer the 2024 state and presidential elections.
